Pencils

I've been neglecting the blog due to the fact that I've been getting 'Welcome to the Gun Zoo' ready for next month's Comic-Con in SD. So, as a means of easing back into this, here are some pencil sketches I've been producing lately. I've been reading a bunch of different stuff lately (Secret Warriors, Cooke/Sale's Kryptonite) as you can see by the Daisy in the first frame and the traditional Supes/Lois in the 2nd. The third frame is another sketch of the Gun Zoo girls all grown up - Patch and Billie Joe. Apparently I'm also into really big fists in the air.

Hulk, 80s Storm - Bille Joe

So I got a new brush pen yesterday - a Japanese Pentel - that actually has bristles! Very cool - indeed. So I've been busy using it and the results are above. BTW - Morlock Storm from the 80s is by far her best iteration - there really isn't any debate.

Happy Saturday - Cheers -

Patch Process

Happy Friday! This post is an illustration (pun intended) of process - from pencils to inks. There's a construction phase before the pencils - but that gets covered up by the pencils themselves. Ink is done with a #4 Sable brush and a Micron 5 pen for finer areas.

Cyclops

Let's be honest - I'm not a colorist - I don't claim to be one. And the above is poor by Archie comics' standards to be sure. But it was fun to add a little color to the image - for a change of pace. Have a good rest of the long weekend!

Wolverine

I know these aren't red pencil - but the stuff I've been doing at home as been far more interesting. Here we have some more Samnee style-jocking - a portrait of Wolverine on his nightly berry picking sojourn.

Brush Pen

I've been using the brush pen on some of the latest sketches - and results keep getting better and better. Jocking a little of Chris Samnee's style in the last one -

Massive DC Post

I've been slacking as of late - so here's a giant sized post composed of DC characters. Enjoy - especially the 'Odd Couple' themed Superman v. Luthor sketch.

6 for Saturday

It's been a busy week procrastinating at work - as you can see above. This post is apparently X-Men themed - with Nick Fury thrown in to boot. The Fury is my personal favorite from the week. Check back tomorrow for even more!

I mean - really?

She's right! I've got tons of new stuff - I'm firing up the scanner so look for it tonight and over the weekend.

Four for Friday

It's been a couple of days - so here's four sketches from this week (Happy Friday! Have a cold one - I'm having 6):

*Wink*

I'm back to update my severely neglected sketch blog! Since it's been so long - I'm posting two doodles I did today. *Wink* above and Izzie (from Welcome to the Gun Zoo) below. The Izzie sketch is one of the reasons I love comics - in no way would an individual stand in this pose - even if they were getting ready for action. But, in comics this is a completely acceptable position for her to be in. Go Figure.

Penny always did have a thing for Smooge -

Bittersweet was the word of the day yesterday - as we got the win but had to say goodbye to our seniors, JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore. Few that have donned the Old Gold and Black were better than these two. I could go on for miles right now - but suffice to say it's been a real pleasure watching these two grow up and become the players they are today. Even Penny is having a real problem giving them up. Season's not over yet - onward and upward to Iowa City.

Here's to you fellas - Cheers!

(P.S. - First time we've been undefeated at home since '68-'69! For those of you keeping score at home that's the Rick Mount era!)

Gut Punch

The Boilers took it to the Spartans yesterday up in East Lansing - and Penny took it to Sparty today. Let's keep it going - Senior night tomorrow at Mackey. Penny needs another headdress.

Did you just Crean your pants IU?

Penny's on a role - and she's come full circle - she was born just prior to our 1st game with IU this year. Rest assured - she's not frightened by the momentum that's building. (Thanks Andy for the title). To the Breslin Center!

Fourth World

I've been reading Jack Kirby's Fourth World saga - and wanted to get in the mix. It's Big Barda tangling it up with Darkseid. When I was working my way through this one it dawned on me why, in the 80s, Darkseid lost his customary skirted tunic for some tight blue pantalones - It's because if he was in a stance like this the skirt really shows through. Kind of defeats the point of the Kirby's ultimate symbol of evil.

Cracked Nut

I bet you thought I forgot - I didn't. I just didn't work yesterday. At any rate - this image of Penny was requested by two people (Reuben & Molly), independently of one another - if we won they game against Ohio St. Which we did.

Let up why don't you?

Oh man - how was your Friday? Mine kind of went like this - relentless. But, I'm home now, popped some wine with the wife, having some friends over, watching some Phish DVDs - all is right with the universe.

WA-BMP!!

It's Friday!

It's that time of year - to break out your furs.

Success in the rematch against Wisconsin last night - and Penny's streak continues -

(And apparently, I've inadvertently used the same joke that was used for the win over Illinois.)

Take THAT Illini!

I'm sticking with the Penny theme for the blog right now because Purdue's winning with her. That was an impressive road victory in Champaign on Sunday! Bring on the Badgers - Penny needs a new fur!

More Penny!

Penny's just too great - I had to do some of more her. Here she is letting Pete know how it's going to be. Go Boilers!
